Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM)

What is OCIM?

  • Orange Congregations in Mission is a private, non-profit ministry located in Hillsborough, NC. The Membership, volunteers and staff of OCIM are committed to providing a helping hand to those in our community in a crisis situation. Mars Hill has helped OCIM minister in this community for many years and give a percentage of our budget to them each year. OCIM is always in need of donations, and volunteer help for anyone who would like to assist. Also, in the vestibule of Mars Hill there is a donation box which is used as an emergency fund for OCIM when they are in need of supplies.

 

Mount Zion Baptist Association

What is the Mount Zion Baptist Association?

  • The Mount Zion Baptist Association is the local Southern Baptist association of churches to which Mars Hill belong. Here we partner together and support local church ministries and work together to promote the work of the Gospel. What is the mission of the Mount Zion Baptist Association?

  • The mission of the Mount Zion Association is to serve as a resource to the churches, engaging them, equipping them, and encouraging them to serve their community and the world and to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

 

Women’s Missionary Union

  • The WMU or the Women’s Missionary Union of North Carolina is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention that was founded in 1888. It is the largest Protestant missions organisation for women in the world.

 

  • The WMU in the Church – The main purpose of WMU is to educate and involve preschoolers, children, youth, and adults in the cause of Christian missions. Through biblically sound, age-appropriate resources, the WMU seeks to energise, motivate, and equip all ages for missions involvement. Ongoing missions education opportunities develop believers who are informed about God’s mission in the world; they become fully engaged Christians who recognise and accept personal responsibility for sharing the love of Christ with others.

A Walk for Hunger

When is it held?

  • Sometime after April

What is it?

  • A Walk for Hunger is a fundraising event held by OCIM (Orange Congregations in Ministry) to help fund their relief organisation, it is usually held at a local park and raises money through items sold there, being sponsored for walking, or through donations received. This is a chance for all the community to come together and unite to help those in need in our community.

How can I help?

  • You can volunteer to help OCIM put on this event. You can find sponsors to raise money as you walk for the Walk for Hunger, or you can donate to OCIM to help them as they serve the community.

 

Picnic for the Visually Impaired

When is it held?

  • Sometime in May at Riverside Baptist Church in Graham, NC.

What is it?

  • This is an associational picnic held for those in our association and the surrounding communities that are visually impaired. This is an event in which the church is asked to bring food for the picnic social and also to attend to fellowship with other churches in our association and all those in attendance.

How can I help?

  • You can prepare and bring food as well as attend this event that ministers to the visually impaired in our associational area

 

Fields of Faith

When is it held?

  • The Second Wednesday of October

What is it?

  • Fields of Faith is a student led event, in which students from local high schools meet at a school’s athletic field to share testimony and encourage their fellow Christians in the faith. This is an offset ministry of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and all churches are encouraged to attend and encourage their teenagers in their Christian faith. Mars Hill has just recently begun attending this event. Usually on the night of Field of Faith the church will have their meal begin at 5:45pm and then those who are able drive or if there are enough people the church’ bus will be driven over to Orange County High School’s athletic field where the service will start at 7pm. Usually the event will last about an hour, but times may vary from year to year.

How can I help?

  • All are invited to come and support the teenagers of our community and encourage them in their faith.

 

World Day of Prayer

When is it held?

  • The first Monday in November

What is it?

  • This is a Worldwide movement focusing on praying for the needs of others. A focus is put on praying specifically for certain areas of our world and the many needs that are present. This is held at various churches each year with a time and location announced beforehand

How can I help?

  • All are invited to come and attend.

 

Birthday Party at the Prison

When is it held?

  • It varies from year to year.

What is it?

  • Mars Hill provides a birthday party celebration for those in our local prison. This is a chance for the members to bring cakes and other birthday desserts into the prison for a time to celebrate the birthdays of those that are there. We share a time with the inmates in the prison and fellowship with them. This gives an opportunity for the church to minister to those in need at the prison and share the love of Christ in a practical way.

How can I help?

  • Anyone is able to attend this event and all are urged to provide baked goods for the prisoners.

 

Toys for Prison Inmates

When is it held?

  • Late November early December

 

What is it?

  • Each year Mars Hill receives donations of toys for the prisoners at the local prison these toys are made available for the inmates to give to their families at Christmas.

How can I help?

  • All are encouraged to bring a present to help those in prison.

 

Pathways Elementary School’s

Angel Tree Ministry

When is it held?

  • December

What is it?

  • Each year we receive requests for toys and other gifts for kids in need at Pathways Elementary school, located behind Mars Hill. Those requests are made available and those at Mars Hill take every how many they would like, purchase the item, wrap it, and then place the request tag on it and return it to the church. The presents are then brought to Pathways where they can be delivered to the children in need.

How can I help?

  • Anyone who would like to take a tag with a request on it is welcome to take it to give to a child in need.

 

Various Ministry Opportunities

for Helping the Staff at Pathways Elementary School

When is it held?

  • Various times during the year

What is it?

  • From time to time Mars Hill ministers to the teachers and staff at Pathways Elementary School. Sometimes we provide breakfast or lunch for them. Other times we provide bags of candy or school supplies.

How can I help?

  • Throughout the year as these events arise we are always in need of various items and help in delivering them.
